Though a Catholic, she won the respect of Muslims in Pakistan and the majority of patients at Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre. In her behavior, she promoted interreligious understanding although not speaking about religion. Ruth Pfau passed away in August 2017 in Karachi. She received full state honors when she was buried.
